The Machame route is one of the most popular routes for climbing Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It usually takes 6-7 days to complete, but I’m going to create a 7-day travel plan for a more comfortable pace and better acclimatization. Our professional guides advise you. This travel plan enables proper acclimatization and maximizes your chances of reaching the summit while enjoying the breathtaking landscapes of Kilimanjaro. Remember to listen to your body, drink enough, and follow your guides’ instructions to have a safe and unforgettable trekking experience.

They are picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or from Arusha and taken to Ameg Lodge or an accommodation of their choice in Moshi. Meet with your trekking guide for instruction and equipment review. Relax and prepare for the upcoming adventure.
Overnight: Ameg Lodge
After breakfast drive to Machame Gate (approx. 1-2 hours). Registration at the gate and start of the hike through the rainforest.
Hike from about 5-7 hours to the Machame Camp.
Construction of the camp, rest and dinner.

Difference in altitude: 1200 m
Today’s hike leads through the heath and moor landscapes. Hike from about 4-6 hours to Shira Camp. With the ascent, the landscape changes. Setting up the camp, resting and acclimatizing.
Length: 5 km
Difference in altitude: 1006 m
A demanding day with a significant difference in altitude. Ascent to the Lava Tower for acclimatization and then descent to the Barranco Camp. The hike takes about 6-8 hours.
Enjoy breathtaking views of the Western Breach and the Barranco Wall.
Construction of the camp and rest in the Barranco Camp.

Difference in altitude: 790 m up, 680 m down
Today’s hike includes the ascent of the Barranco Wall, a steep but manageable climb.
Hike of about 4-5 hours to the Karanga Camp.
Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Rest and acclimatize at the Karanga Camp.

Ascent to the Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt.
Hike of about 3-4 hours through alpine desert areas.
Arrival at the Barafu Camp in the afternoon.
Rest, hydrate and prepare for the summit climb.
Early dinner and early to bed for the summit attempt.

Awaken around midnight for the summit attempt. Hike to Stella Point and then to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Enjoy the sunrise from the summit (in good weather) and celebrate your success. Descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and brunch. Continuation of the descent to the Mweka Camp.
Today’s hike can take a total of 11-15 hours.
Rest and celebrate the summit success in the Mweka Camp.
Length: 5 km uphill, 12 km downhill
Difference in altitude: 1222 m uphill, 2795 m downhill
Final descent through the rainforest. Hike about 3-4 hours to the Mweka Gate. Unsubscribe from the park authorities, receive your summit certificates and pass them on from your guides and porters. Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Celebrate your Kilimanjaro adventure with a well-deserved dinner and rest.

After breakfast, they are picked up from the hotel and brought to either Arusha or the airport.
